Face it, money is tight! Those with extra income do not necessarily want to spend it all on a first, or even second, date. If the relationship doesn’t go any further, the person doing the spending may feel all the money spent on dinners, movies, and concerts went to waste. Do not let that be the case anymore. Think creative and find dates that cost very little, but are high on the romance meter!

One of the greatest dates you could ever imagine is a simple picnic. Find a secluded spot and spread out a blanket. Create a meal from scratch and serve it to your date, as this is much more sentimental than any fancy meal at a 5-star restaurant. If allowed at the location of your picnic, take along a nice bottle of wine or cider for toasting.

If cooking is not your strong suit, look for places around town that would be perfect for a leisurely walk. Around my home, there are numerous beaches, boardwalks, parks and nature preserves which make beautiful walking locales. Set your date for the afternoon after work or immediately after the dinner hour. Bring along healthy snacks if you go in the afternoon, as you and your date may get a case of the munchies. Offer sparkling water to drink and enjoy the fresh air and scenery.

The current hot spot for dates are coffee shops located in bookstores. Although generally hopping, there is just something about sitting amongst the stacks of books that can really start conversation flowing. If either of you should happen to get hungry, the small scones and cookies available will be sufficient to take care of it without costing you more than $10.00.

Look for free entertainment in your area, as well, for those early dates. Open mike nights at the local comedy club, karaoke at the neighborhood bowling alley, or musicians at the Irish pub down the street can be extremely fun for those in the audience, while providing a laid back, light atmosphere. Dressing up is optional, which is great for those who would rather wear casual attire.

What you can do “on the cheap” in your area depends on where you live. You may have a local theatre which provides “Shakespeare in the Park”. Local bands could perform in county parks. You can even find a planetarium and take your date to sit under the stars! Basically, the possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing just where your first, or second, date may be.
